First Grade Butterfly Release
Our first grade class has spent the last 3 weeks watching our caterpillars grow, from their chrysalis, then transform into beautiful painted lady butterflies. What a joy it was to actually see a butterfly come out of its chrysalis! After watching our new friends fly around their habitat, drink the sugar water we made for them, sit on the flowers and rocks we decorated their home with, it was time to set them free into the great outdoors. To celebrate this day we made butterfly crowns and rings. We all took turns touching the butterflies before we marched outside. It was exciting to see other classes join us. We unzipped their habitat and one by one they flew up and away. It was a great way to make our study on insects come alive!
